I made these sketches as part of a broader research project on Swahili urbanism, planning, and conservation.  They were rendered through a combination of on-site studies, interviews, and archival research.  Some of these drawings still have remnants of dust from Lamu, Zanzibar, and other locations.  See published work in the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research and the UNESCO Report on the Swahili Urban Landscape.
