Makeshift Urbanity

Photographer David Helbich has an eye for the quirks, riggings, and make-do solutions that comprise a good measure of the everyday landscape of cities. While his project "Belgian Solutions" traces these little interventions in the streets and neighborhoods of Brussels, they resonate much more broadly in cities around the world. His observation that Brussels is a kind of "taped together" city offers a metaphor for efforts by ordinary people to maintain urban infrastructure amid declining public investments.
